2011 NFL Player Props

September 1st, 2011 No comments

Year after year, the betting world gets bigger and bigger, finding more action of things to bet on. This year there are a ton of player prop bets, to go along with the list of team prop bets, and many others. We want to discuss a few of the best NFL Player Props for the 2011 season:

Odds to win NFL MVP:

Each year, the top player gets the Most Valuable Player award. Each year several players make a strong run for the award, and one comes away with it. Aaron Rodgers is the favorite to win the award at 11/2. Others that will make a strong case are: Tom Brady 6/1, Phillip Rivers 7/1, Drew Brees 10/1, Peyton Manning 10/1, Michael Vick 17/2. Our pick for this award is Phillip Rivers at 7/1. We feel he is going to have a monster season, including nearing 5,000 passing yards. The Chargers should be much better this year, which will help his cause for the award. We are betting Phillip Rivers to win the 2011 MVP.

Offensive Rookie of the Year

Each year a rookie has a break-out season, and is huge for his respective team. There is an award on both sides of the ball; offense and defense. For the offensive rookie of the year, Julio Jones and Mark Ingram are the top choices at 5/1. Next is Cam Newton 11/2, Daniel Thomas 6/1 and A.J. Green 7/1. We like A.J. Green to win this award. We feel he is going to be the lone deep threat for the Bengals and will have a great impace on Cincinnati’s offense. The one downfall for Green will be how bad his team is. Still bet A.J. Green 7/1 to win offensive rookie of the year!

Most Rushing Yards

As we all know, running backs are key to any of the best offenses in the game. Running backs carry a huge load for the team. This award will go to the player that accumulates the most rushing yards in the NFL. The top choices are: Adrian Peterson 5/1, Chris Johnson 11/2, Michael Turner 7/1, Arian Foster 8/1 and Jamaal Charles 10/1. This choice to us is easy, Adrian Peterson, is he stays healthy is going to get a ton of carries for Minnesota’s offense. Peterson is still the best running back in the game, so we are betting on AP.

Most Receiving Yards

While running backs do the dirty work, receivers are go to guy’s late in the game. The final award we are going to bet on is the award for the most receiving yards in a season. There are a ton of top wide receivers, so let’s take a look at a few: Andre Johnson 5/1, Roddy White 11/2, Greg Jennings 6/1, Larry Fitzgerald 7/1, Calvin Johnson 9/1. We like all of these receivers, but our choice for this award is going to the  favorite; Andre Johnson. The Houston offense can throw the ball as well as any team in the league. Look for Schaub and Johnson to hook up a bunch, to give A.J. the win.

Best of luck this year with all your NFL betting. We hope you enjoy the NFL season, and have a successful betting season. Continue to check back here for all the latest NFL bets.

Your Best NFL Betting Options Online

April 1st, 2011 No comments

Despite this annoying lockout, the NFL will still be the place to be when it comes to sports betting on the internet.  It’s a multi-billion dollar business that generates nearly as much from live and online sports wagering every year.

Even though the players and the NFL owners can’t figure out a way to share a $13 billion dollar a year business properly, the fans will STILL remain loyal and will still need places to bet once both sides come to an agreement.  It’s football – we live it, we breathe it and we sleep it.

Once the day comes where both side come together for a new CBA – and I honestly anticipate it will be quite soon – then you’ll need to know a decent list of sports betting websites online.

Here’s a quick list of my favorite NFL sportsbooks:

1. Sportsbook.com - One of the “original” sportsbooks online, Sportsbook.com offers bonuses up to $250 for new online bettors. It’s been one of the more popular betting choice for the major sports, ESPECIALLY the NFL; however, it recently has also become a great book for international soccer and even is one of the more top flight cricket betting sites out there as well. Right now, you can get reduced juice on certain games every week, as well as bet from your mobile phone.  It is also one of the more organized sites offering horse racing and other exotic sports bets as well.

2. Bodog.com – Calvin Ayre’s creation has been a staple in the online betting business for more than a decade now.  The site offers a 10% instant bonus for new players, meaning you get cash to play with right away, and when NFL season rolls around that’s usually a prime time to lay it down. Bodog also has a casino and poker room to play at, with some of the most solid graphics and playability that I’ve ever seen as a recreational player goes.  Like Sportbook.com they too also offer a mobile betting option, and are also very much compatible with users with Mac PC’s.

3. 5Dimes – 5Dimes has one of the cleaner backends in the sports market, and offers tons of betting options for its players.  They offer odds for most major sports, including ones Americans may not be too informed about, such as cricket and rugby.  A unique option 5Dimes gives its players is a live casino where you can actually play blackjack and other table games where REAL dealers are on your screen.  You can interact and play with other people as well, making 5Dimes a cool choice when you’re not looking to wager on sports.

Betting Odds on WR Julio Jones in the 2011 NFL Draft

March 29th, 2011 No comments

Julio Jones is undoubtedly one of the best receivers that will be featured in the upcoming NFL Draft in April.

At 6’3″ and able to run under 4.40 in the 40-yard dash at this year’s combine, he was definitely one of the head-turners at the event.

Unfortunately, Julio Jones is being widely scrutinized as possibly being ONLY the #2 or #3 best wide receiver in this year’s crop.

While he had amazing YPC numbers during his latter years at Alabama, he wasn’t held as the go-to WR, especially with the talented core of offense they already had in place – plus, he was overshadowed by a big burly former Heisman winner in Mark Ingram for awhile too.

His numbers in clutch games were huge, but the name Julio Jones was never quite as popular as it was until this past season, where he came out with some pretty impressive stats and made some amazing show-stopping plays in the process.

Normally, sites like BetUS post props and other types of sports odds on the NFL Draft every year; however, there doesn’t seem to be any defining stats or odds on this year’s upcoming draft.

In fact, with the NFL lockout currently in its 3rd week, there’s no telling when there might be an NFL season, let alone a season where we can bet on the games freely.

In either case, if you were looking at the top receivers that WILL be drafted in the first round this year, here are my top 3 that will fit that very bill – just in case we ever DO get around to playing some football:

1.  A.J. Green – Georgia

2. Julio Jones – Alabama

3. Jernel Jornigan – Troy

NFL Agrees to New Rule Changes Despite no CBA Agreement…Yet.

March 23rd, 2011 No comments

The NFL may not have a new collective bargaining agreement in place since both sides broke away from talks last week, but that hasn’t stopped the owners from coming to an agreement regarding some new rules changes that would go into effect whenever the players do decide to come back to work.

The 1st  rule change is something many coaches will be LOVING:

  • All touchdowns will be challenged by a booth review upstairs no matter what, therefore saving coaches their much-needed challenge flags for other important plays.

This is critical in games because coaches only get 2 challenges per game, with a 3rd challenge being awarded if the first 2 challenges are successful.  In the past, coaches who have used up their challenges in earlier portions of the game have costed their teams dearly in the later stages when questionable touchdowns could’ve easily been overturned.

The 2nd rule change is something many coaches and players DISLIKE:

  • Kickoffs will be kicked from the 35 yard line instead of the 30, therefore resulting in more possible touchbacks throughout the season and leaving return specialists like Devin Hester and Percy Harvin in a tough spot to bring back kicks down the road.

This rule was implemented to reduce the amount of injuries on kickoffs, even though there has been no statistical evidence showing that injuries have risen dramatically on kickoffs as opposed to standard offensive and defensive drives.

Free betting sites like Sportsbook.com and Oddsmaker have prop bets regarding what the new rules changes will do to the league and how it will affect games, so make sure to check those out as the season comes closer to possible kickoff.

These new rules changes listed above will be put into place whenever the NFL and the NFLPA come back to the bargaining tables to discuss a new CBA.

Right now, it doesn’t look like the two sides will be meeting any time soon, and for the first time since 1987 there have been actual talks of using replacement players to ensure the 2011 NFL season marches on.

“We have not had any discussions or consideration of replacement players,” Goodell said at a recent news conference. “It hasn’t been discussed, it hasn’t been considered, and it’s not in our plans.”

We hope to bring you more on this as the story progresses even more.

The NFLPA and Roger Goodell Battling Again…

March 19th, 2011 No comments

The CBA has come and gone and as of right now we officially don’t know if we’re going to see NFL action in the upcoming 2011 season – let alone any NFL betting, *sigh*.

In the latest controversy, the league and commissioner Roger Goodell are being slammed by the NFLPA for what the players see as “their demands for a massive giveback which would have resulted in the worst economic deal for players in major pro sports.”

This was in response to Goodell’s prior emails that were sent out to all the players representing the NFLPA to encourage them to come back to the tables to negotiate some type of deal that would prevent a work stoppage this season.  In particular, his closing line was SLAMMED by the Players’ Association:

I hope you will encourage your union to return to the bargaining table and conclude a new collective bargaining agreement.

Players who received the email were not pleased with the “your union” line, as it was taken as an insult to the NFLPA.  Though the players can now sue the NFL and have effectively dissolved as a union, the statement made by Goodell drew yet another battle line for the fight to produce an improved CBA for the next decade.

NFL owners will be heading to their own meeting this week in New Orleans, and it is still unclear what type of legal maneuvering and bargaining will be done down the road.

More to come as it’s reported to us everyone…

NFL is Set For a Lockout in 2011…

March 12th, 2011 No comments

The clock kept ticking on Thursday as the players and owners met to try to reach an agreement to keep the National Football League alive for next season. While we are still months away from the season beginning, the possibility of a lock-out is now hours away.

The two sides have until 5:00pm EST to reach a deal, or the league will go on a lock-out.  The CBA was expected to expire last week, but both sides agreeded to an extenstion. There hasn’t been a work stoppage that caused the league to lose any games since 1987 when the season was shortened. The current collective bargaining agreement was signed in 1993.

The CBA has been extended five times since then, an annual revenues in the NFL have increased to over $9 billion. The league also has 32 teams now, and numerous new stadiums. The rift between the owners side and players side is regarding player’s salaries. As with all professional sports, the salaries of players have sky-rocketed, with guys that haven’t even played a game signing for bonuses of over $1million.

The sides have discussed the extension of the season, which the owners would like to see 18 games, but the players association want nothing to do with adding more games to the season. The players association are worried the players would lose years on their career if they were to add games to the season.

Continue checking back here for more on the possible lock-out of the National Football League. As the season approaches the fear of losing games will begin to set in for the millions of fans around the world.

The ONLY good thing I see coming out of this is getting time to spend on other sports – like the NBA or NHL – who are getting deep into their own seasons with only a handful of games remaining before the playoffs start.

Also, if you’re REALLY bored and looking to work on your poker game, you can find the best poker sites for Mac PC’s and standard room reviews at sites like OnlinePoker.org. They offer exclusive bonus codes for PC and Mac users too, including information on the top-rated FullTilt Poker Mac client and other great websites.

Time Running Out on Colts Management to Resign Peyton Manning

February 28th, 2011 No comments

Peyton Manning has still not been formally offered a new contract by the Indianapolis Colts.  If I was a Colts fan, I know I would be extremely worried right about  now.

While he’s still slated to earn an unreal $23 million next season since he was slapped with the franchise tag by owner Bill Polian, Manning still has a lot to be concerned about considering he was hoping to get a new deal inked before the collective bargaining agreement ran out.

NFL owners and players are still entangled in a fierce battle over CBA renegotiations and despite having federal mediators assisting in matters, the old agreement is set to expire this week and there’s still no signs a deal will be struck in time.

If this happens and the NFL officially goes on strike, 4-time regular season MVP Peyton Manning will be stuck without a new deal and absolutely no leverage to even talk to other teams until something is negotiated on the collective bargaining agreement front.

While most Colts fans can rest easy the Peyton will be suiting up in blue and white for the next season – whenever that may be – they should be frustrated at Bill Polian, who isn’t expediting the talks any quicker.

Right now there aren’t any lines being pushed on popular NFL prop betting sites like BetUS or Bookmaker; however, if I was wagering on sports (or the NFL in particular), I would bet on Manning NOT being resigned to a “promised” long-term deal that was brought from Colts management last year guaranteeing their QB would be the highest-paid player in the league – even ABOVE Patriots QB Tom Brady.

Manning isn’t getting any younger and talks could be stalling on the sole fact that a long-term deal might not be worth it for the Colts to consider at this point, essentially back-tracking on their word made to the their star player at the start of the 2010 NFL season.

Regardless of what happens it shouldn’t be too much of a distraction if and when the 2011 season gets underway.  The Colts will undoubtedly be one of the preseason favorites to make the playoffs and the Super Bowl. Those who are used to NFL betting online, then it’s most likely you’ll be picking the Colts as one of the decent Futures favorites out of the AFC.

We’ll keep you all informed as the story progresses.

Championship Sunday Opening Line Movements

January 18th, 2011 No comments

In five days, the Super Bowl match-up will be set.

I don’t think many bettors are actually surprised with the AFC and NFC Championship games. Sure many thought the Patriots were the team to beat, but many of us handicappers saw the value in betting on the Jets.

The Packers have been playing lights out on the arm of Aaron Rodgers and their strong defense. The Steelers had one of the best second half games a team could have last week against the Ravens, and proved that Joe Flacco isn’t yet an elite quarterback that can lead his team out of adversity and seal the deal.

The Bears had the easiest track to the NFC Championship. Not only did they play a sub-500 team in their lone playoff, but the Bears also had a week regular season schedule.

NFC Championship Betting Odds

The oddsmakers opened the Green Bay Packers as three-point road chalk.

This line is a product of two things: the fact that the Bears beat only 3 teams with a winning record this season (Eagles, Jets, Packers) and that Aaron Rodgers has led the Packers to decisive wins over teams with suspect defenses; Eagles had the 14th ranked passing defense and the Falcons were ranked 22nd in the regular season.

The Bears were 20th against the pass this season, which could mean that more of the same is expected by Rodgers. It doesn’t surprise me that the line has already moved to 3.5.

AFC Championship Betting Odds

This line made complete sense to me when it came out with the Steelers being three-point home favorites. After all, the Jets beat the Steelers at home last month and they just won a decisive victory over the big, bad Patriots.

The difference maker in this game will be Troy Polamalu, who missed the last meeting between the team.  Troy is a bigger piece to this defense than any other player in the league is to their defense.  With Troy being out there attempting to confuse Sanchez, it isn’t surprising the line is no up to 3.5.

NFL Wild Card Preview: New Orleans Saints at Seattle Seahawks

January 4th, 2011 No comments

The NFL post-season kicks off in the same stadium where the regular season ended when the New Orleans Saints (11-5 SU, 7-9 ATS) visit the NFC West Division champions Seattle Seahawks (7-9 SU, 7-9 ATS).

When this game kicks off at Qwest Field Saturday, January 8 at 4:30 p.m. EST, it will be the first time in NFL history that a team with a losing record made the playoffs.

Not only did the Seahawks make the playoffs, but they also have the luxury to host a game.

Anyone will tell you that home field advantage means so much more in the playoffs. The Seahawks are hoping that Qwest Field, home of the 12th Man, can catapult them into the next round.

Seattle Seahawks Betting Odds

When it comes to the Seahawks, it is a good thing that the saying isn’t that offense wins championships. The bad thing is that it says defense does and Seattle’s defense was one of the worse during the regular season.

Ranked 27th overall (368.6 ypg), it isn’t surprising that the Seahawks’ defense allows opponents to score an average of 25.5 points per game (25th). Opposing quarterbacks are recording an average of 249.6 yards per game (27th) while the rushing defense is surrendering 118.9 yards (21st).

As expected, the Seahawks opened as double-digit home dogs at +10 points. Bettors can hope for a windfall on the moneyline with odds around +475. The game total opened at 45 points.

New Orleans Saints Betting Odds

The Saints are the total opposite from the Seahawks on both sides of the ball. Though most people are familiar with Drew Brees and New Orleans’ high-octane offense, it is their defense that could lead them back to the Super Bowl.

The Saints’ defense ranks fourth overall (306.2 ypg) and is only allowing their opponents to score an average of 19.2 points per game (7th). Though the run defense is the weak link ranking 16th and give up 118.9 yards per game on the ground, the passing game is holding quarterbacks to only 193.9 yards, which was good enough to rank fourth in the regular season.

The Saints opened as huge 10-point road favorites. That number has increased a half point at most sportsbooks as early money came in on Brees and company. The moneyline can be found around -600 while the game total is holding steady at 45 points.
