Well we took one on the chin yesterday. The Patriots defense didn’t show up and gave up a late tuddie to ruin the cover. Such is life. Moving on to Friday where there are four games on the schedule. Odds from Sportsbook.com are listed below:
- Washington Redskins @ New York Jets -4.5 and o/u 34
- San Diego Chargers @ New Orleans Saints -3 and o/u 42.5
- Philadelphia Eagles @ Kansas City Chiefs +1 and o/u 37
- Atlanta Falcons @ Miami Dolphins -1 and o/u 37.5
Tonight we have some trends that need be followed. We’ll lay those out for you if you are a fan of following the trends. Then we have a pick of our own that we’ll throw out there for you as well.
The Atlanta Falcons visit the Miami Dolphins tonight in what is expected to be a “rainy” on the ground game. The Falcons haven’t looked real great in the preseason thus far but week 3 is considered the real test week. The Dolphins come into this game as -1 favorites. A very impressive statistic and trend is that the Miami Dolphins have now won 9 straight pre-season games. NINE. We are going to follow this trend and bet on the Miami Dolphins -1 at Sportsbook.com tonight.
The next two preseason NFL trends worth following come in the Eagles @ Chiefs game. The Chiefs come into this game with a nine game preseason losing streak ATS (against the spread). Kansas City is a one point underdog currently at Sportsook.com and Philly is expected to really rev it up this game. Look for that ATS streak to continue and grow to 10 games tonight. Eagles -1 is the play. In that same game there is an over/under trend that might be worth following. The Philadelphia Eagles Over has hit 8 times in their last 9 preseason games. The Over/Under in this game is currently listed at 37. Bet the over with confidence.
Finally, we’ll just throw out a couple of our picks in these other games. No real analysis or reasoning, just pure free NFL preseason picks that you can tail or fade.
- New York Jets -4.5
- New Orleans Saints -3

Ok, now for a Thursday night football pick. There are two games on the slate for tonight. Today begins week 3 of the 2010 NFL Preseason and typically that is the week where teams want to see where the 1st string is at. Most teams play their studs into the 3rd quarter and get them some real playing time in Week 3. The St. Louis Rams play at the New England Patriots in the first game, followed by the Indianapolis Colts at the Green Bay Packers. Let’s jump into some analysis.
Rams @ Patriots
The Patriots come into this game rolling through the preseason. They are 2-0 and Tom Brady looks like he hasn’t missed a beat (15-20 for 152 yards and a touchdown) so far this pre-season. The biggest question for the Patriots is who is going to lead their running attack? We look for the Pats to do a lot of running tonight against the Rams and really hammer out their depth chart at Running Back. Brady and crew should play into the third quarter unless the game is a blowout.
As for the Rams, newsflash, they are not a good football team. A.J. Feeley is out with a injured thumb and rookie Sam Bradford takes the helm at quarterback. Bradford has not looked good at all this preseason for the Rams. He is 12-27 for just 81 yards in his limited action. Going up against the Patriots won’t help either. Stud runningback Steven Jackson will get very limited touches tonight as the Rams will want to make sure he is perfectly healthy for week 1.
The line at Sportsbook.com for this game sits at Patriots -7.5 points. We love the Patriots to cover this spread. There is a clear distinction between these two teams. Preseason or not, no way the Rams keep this game close. The Patriots want to continue their solid play and a hiccup against the lowly Rams would not be good. Look for Brady and the team to jump out to a 3+ touchdown lead and just coast through the 2H.
Bet on Patriots -7.5 at Sportsbook.com
Colts @ Packers
The odds at Sportsbook.com have the Packers favored by 3.5 and that line seems pretty fair. Both of these teams are potential Super Bowl contending teams with A+ quarterbacks. The Colts often times don’t play well in the preseason and do a lot of expirementing. For this reason and this reason only we would lean towards the favorite and bet on the Packers -3.5. But, seeing the Colts as an underdog is juicy as well. My honest opinion is just stay away and enjoy the game.
